POLICIES

At Future MMA, our mission is to promote mixed martial arts to promote self-defense, fitness, and personal development. We are committed to delivering the highest standards of instruction in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. Our goal is to provide accessible martial arts education for our community, to equip students with valuable self defense skills and valuable life lessons
Create Community: We ask all students to introduce themselves to new students that attend classes, and be friendly to others within the gym space.
Show Respect: We ask students to treat those around them with respect in and out of classes.
No Ego: We ask that students leave as much of their
ego at the door as possible. Mistakes are a part of the martial arts
journey, and the more you make, the faster you learn.
Stay Calm: Learning a combat sport is stressful!
Breathe and stay calm. This will help you continue to think through
stressful combat situations. Thinking = more learning :)
Be a Good Training Partner: We ask that students
recognize that their actions directly affect the experience of the
person they are training with, and, as such, we ask that they strive to
optimize their training partners experience as well as their own.
Good Hygiene: We ask that students practice proper hygiene (more on this below).
‣ We ask that all students use indoor sandals or shoes when walking
around the gym space off the mats. This includes wearing shoes when
using the washroom. Parents, please bring indoor sandals that your
children can easily put on or remove for walking around the space.
‣ Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!
‣ No food or drink other than water on the mats.
‣ We do not hold a specific dress code other than asking that students
dress appropriately for the class they are attending. For grappling,
this means wear shirts and shorts or long pants, or a gi (if you have
one), depending on the class you are attending. This is not just to
respect your training partners, but also to protect you from mat burn
and infections. Please refrain from wearing clothing with inappropriate
content as we do have children in the facility.
‣ Wash your gi or activewear after every class. This is imperative in order to prevent the spread of infection.
‣ Cover or remove metal jewelry before classes.
‣ For grapplers, make sure your fingernails and toenails are trimmed.
‣ If you are sick, stay home.
‣ If you have a skin infection such as staph or ringworm, stay home.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Does my child need any special equipment to attend their first class?
No, they don’t. If they do need equipment we have spares that will be
provided for use. Simply make sure they are wearing activewear and have a
pair of indoor shoes for walking around off the mats. We do ask that if
you enroll your students in classes you purchase the appropriate
equipment they will need (either gi or boxing gloves). These will either
be available for sale at our gym, or the instructors will refer you to
good resources for equipment purchase.
I'm a beginner. Which classes are beginner friendly?
All of our classes are beginner friendly, but the content in our advanced classes may be challenging for beginners. For Muay Thai, we recommend our Monday and Wednesday Muay Thai classes. For jiu jitsu, we welcome
beginners to any class, but the most beginner friendly class is our
Monday “Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals” class.
Who is eligible for membership discounts?
Students (high school and university), first responders (law
enforcement, fire fighters, military personnel), health care
professionals, are all eligible for membership discounts. We also offer
family plans which you can contact us to learn more about.
What does "gi" and "nogi" mean?
A jiu jitsu gi class is a class where participants wear the gi, which is
a traditional martial arts uniform consisting of heavy cotton pants, a
jacket, and a colored belt representing their rank. Nogi classes mean
participants can wear simple athletic wear, although regular attendees
will typically wear specialty clothing such as rashguards and combat
shorts.
How can I properly observe hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infectious diseases?
Make sure to wash your gear immediately after training sessions. It is
also important to shower after training sessions to prevent the spread
of skin infections. Monitor yourself, and don’t train if you notice you
have a skin infection. Stay home, as this could propagate the spread of
disease within the gym. Instructors will disinfect the mats between
classes to prevent this from becoming an issue.
What do I wear to my first class?
For grappling, tighter shirts and shorts/pants is good attire to
prevent people’s toes/fingers from getting caught in loose clothing.
Wearing shorts or pants and a shirt ensures that you are protected from
mat burn, scrapes, and bacteria that is present on all mats. For striking, activewear such as shorts and shirts are good attire.
Anything you feel that you can freely move and sweat in is appropriate.
How do I wrap my hands for Muay Thai class?
Note that it isn’t necessary to wrap your hands for your first Muay Thai
class, and we never do this in the kids classes. However, it is a good
idea for future classes if you are an adult. This video is a helpful resource.
How do I tie my belt for gi jiu jitsu?
This video is a good resource.
Where can I park at your location?
Sorry! We know it’s confusing and we will do our best to keep our
customers notified of any changes in available parking locations. You
can refer to this image—any yellow space (in front of the other building
units) is fair game on the evening/weekends. We also have parking available behind our building — our staff will help you figure this out when you come visit!
